Atlas vs Tigres Match Preview

Atlas has been one of the unluckiest teams in the Liga MX this season with links to a drug trafficking organization to captain Rafael Marquez and injuries as well. The big blow to the team came in week 4 of the competition when Clifford Aboagye suffered a season ending injury. A replacement for the Ghanaian midfielder has already come for Atlas in the form of English midfielder Ravel Morrison.

It is unclear if the Manchester United youth product will make his Liga MX debut in this game but it is unlikely as he was just officially presented with the club earlier this week. Los Rojinegros have not won a game since Rafael Marquez was in the lineup in Atlas’ 2-1 win against Pumas UNAM in week 2 of the tournament. The fans are starting to become impatient and are even asking for the termination of manager Jose Guadalupe Cruz. This will be an extremely challenging task for Los Zorros but the home-field advantage at the Estadio Jalisco is one of the best in the league and could propel the team to the three points from the game.

Tigres UANL is currently in third with 12 points but has not lived up to the team’s very high expectations. Archrivals Monterrey seem to be the best team in tow and in all the Liga MX, which means Tigres UANL really need to step it up. The team from Nuevo Leon made some recent purchases to try and strengthen the squad, including the acquisition of French defender Timothée Kolodziejczak from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Tigres UANL already has one of the best teams in all the southern hemisphere with players like Andre-Pierre Gignac, Eduardo Vargas and Enner Valencia. The most recent result for Los Felinos was a 3-2 win against Lobos BUAP, the score was not indicative of the performance as Tigres UANL was clearly much more dominant that Lobos BUAP. On paper, Ricardo Ferretti’s team should easily take the three points from the game but it could prove to be a much more contested encounter.
