This Sunday, August 6, 2017 (10:00 AM Pacific) Veracruz will host Puebla the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente for a matchup in the third round of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are expected to fight relegation this season and should provide an intense encounter.
Veracruz had a solid Clausura 2017, finishing in 13th and evading relegation with a squad that was expected to relegate. Los Tiburones are off to a shaky start this tournament with a 2-0 loss against Necaxa and a 1-0 loss against Monterrey.
The defense has been disastrous for Juan Antonio Luna and the offense has also not been able to generate anything going forward. Veracruz should be able to get some points from this encounter playing against a fragile Puebla side at home.
Puebla finished dead last in the Clausura 2017 and is expected to have another lackluster tournament in the Liga MX. Los Camoteros began the Apertura 2017 with a rough 5-0 loss against Tigres UANL and followed that up with a surprising 1-1 draw against Morelia away from home.
Rafael Garcia does not count with many outstanding players on his roster but has some players that have the potential to break down the weak Veracruz defense like Carlos Salom, Felix Micolta and Francisco Acuna. The match should be a hard-fought encounter at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente and should provide some exciting moments.
