This Saturday, August 5, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific) Club America will host Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Azteca for a match in the third round of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. El Clasico Capitalino is set to be one of the more entertaining matches this week in the Liga MX and should not disappoint.
Club America started off the Apertura 2017 with a 1-0 loss against Queretaro but bounced back with an impressive 2-0 win against Pachuca. Cecilio Dominguez stole the show in that match, getting the two goals that gave Las Aguilas the victory against Pachuca. Miguel Herrera will be without one of his star signings from the off-season Guido Rodriguez because of a red card in the match against Pachuca.
There are not many players that can fill the role for Rodriguez on America’s roster and his absence could affect the course of the game. Club America is the slight favorite with the home-field advantage at the Estadio Azteca but it may not be enough to surpass this rigid Pumas UNAM team.
Pumas UNAM had a slim 1-0 win against Pachuca to start the Apertura 2017 but then had a disappointing 2-1 loss against Atlas away from home. The Mexico City team has a talented core of players with the likes of Gerardo Alcoba, Jesus Gallardo and Nicolas Castillo. This will be a tremendous test for Paco Palencia’s team, especially playing at the Estadio Azteca but Pumas should be able to provide a hard-fought effort. The game should be one of the best this weekend with the pride of Mexico City on the line as well as the three points.
