French side reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United attacker

According to reports, Lyon are interested in signing Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle United.

The French outfit are looking to bring in new strikers ahead of next season after selling Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal for £52.7 million.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he is looking to trim his squad ahead of the new season.

However, the Spanish manager does not have many strike options so it remains to be seen if he will be willing to part ways with Mitrovic.

Dwight Gayle is expected to start the season as the clubs first choice striker and the only other options that the Tyneside club have apart from Mitrovic are Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere and Ivan Toney.

Benitez is also willing to let Riviere go this summer which increases the chances of him keeping the Serbian international Mitrovic.

In addition to this, Lyon are reportedly lining up a bid of £13.4 million which does not meet Newcastle’s evaluation.
