This Saturday, July 15, 2017 (1:30 PM Pacific) Panama will play Martinique at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio for a group stage match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The winner of the game will qualify to the next round, so an intense encounter is expected.
Panama can go through to the next round with a draw or a win, currently tied for first with the United States in Group B with four points and a goal differential of one. The Central American side has done well, tying 1-1 against the USA in its first game and defeating Nicaragua 2-1 in its last game. Hernan Dario Gomez has counted with three different goal scorers in New York City FC’s, Miguel Camargo, Gabriel Torres, who plays in Switzerland and 20-year-old, Ismael Diaz, who plays with Porto. Panama has an intriguing squad and does have a better chance at going through to the next round with the tie being a favorable result.
Martinique has massively exceeded expectations in this tournament, currently in third in Group B with three points. The Caribbean side started out the competition with a comfortable 2-0 win against Nicaragua and then had an outstanding performance against the USA, narrowly losing against the host nation 3-2. Former Seattle Sounder and Martinique’s all-time goal scorer, Kevin Parsemain has been spectacular in this tournament with three out of the four goals for Martinique so far. The island nation has been one of the more intriguing sides in this edition of the Gold Cup and should put up a great fight against Panama in this game.
