New Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has claimed that Wahbi Khazri and Jeremain Lens could still have futures at the club despite the duo being linked with moves away from the Stadium of Light following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
Khazri has been linked with potential moves to clubs in France while Lens has been touted to join clubs in Holland and Turkey, having spent the past season on loan with Fenerbahce.
Sales of the players are expected to bring in more than £10 million to the club which will be a valuable addition of funds, especially considering that the club will need to bolster their side if they want to secure straight promotion back to the Premier League.
Grayson however indicated that the duo will remain Black Cats members for now saying, “While they’re still here and being paid as Sunderland players, they’ll be doing every session with the rest of the lads.
“They’re not out here for a jolly up – they’ll earn their money. While they’re here, we’ll utilise them, and if anything changes, so be it. (Khazri) is a talented player, and that’s why he is at Sunderland. He’s played in the Premier League. You’ve seen in the two games that he’s a good player, and we want to keep good players.
“Time will tell who will stay at the football club. Every player at every club has a price, but while they’re here, they’ll do what’s required and do everything to try to get in the team for the first game of the season.”
Both players scored during the Black Cats 2-2 pre-season draw with Hibernian during the weekend.
