This Saturday, July 8, 2017 (4:00 PM Pacific) Martinique will play Nicaragua at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee for a 2017 Gold Cup group stage match. Both teams are the underdogs in Group B and will be looking to start the competition with three points.
Martinique is not a popularly known country and is even less known for producing soccer stars. Despite this, there are still some decent players who play on some popular clubs in Europe and the MLS on the national team. There is one MLS player on the squad in the defender, Jordy Delem of the Seattle Sounders other notables include Jean-Sylvain Babin of Sporting Gijon, Kévin Théophile-Catherine of Saint-Etienne and Steeven Langil of Polish club, Legia Warsaw. The match should not be easy for the Islanders but it is a game that they can win against an unimpressive Nicaragua team.
Nicaragua is a more known country in the world but its history in the world of soccer is on par with Martinique. The Central American side is comprised mostly of players who play in Nicaragua, with only five players who play outside of their home nation.
These four players still play in low-level leagues with two of the four playing in Guatemala, another playing in Costa Rica and the most notable of the bunch, Daniel Cadena playing in Iceland. The game is set to be a hard-fought clash with no clear winner and both teams motivated to get the three points.
