This Saturday, June 24, 2017 (8:00 AM Pacific) Russia will host Mexico at the Kazan Arena in Kazan, Russia for a group stage match in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. Both teams are in the contested fight to get to the next round of the tournament in Group A of the competition.
Mexico and Russia for a ticket into Confederations Semifinals
Mexico is currently topping Group A with four points and will be looking to get the win to emerge as the leaders of the group. El Tri tied 2-2 against Portugal in the first match-day of the cup and is coming off a slim 2-1 win over New Zealand. Juan Carlos Osorio decided to make eight changes from the first game to the game against New Zealand. The Colombian manager is likely to make more changes for this upcoming game and may use the same lineup that was used against Portugal. That lineup looked much more formidable than the starting 11 that was used against New Zealand and should be able to get the three points from this encounter.
Russia is currently the underdog to get to the next round of the Confederations Cup, currently, in third with three points in Group A. The hosts achieved a comfortable 2-0 win against New Zealand in their first game and fell 1-0 to Portugal in the second game of the competition. The Russian side displayed a strong performance against Portugal and was unlucky to get the loss. Igor Akinfeev was one of the more impressive players on the pitch, getting some phenomenal saves throughout the 90 minutes. Fyodor Smolov has proven to be Russia’s most dangerous man going forward and will be the main player to watch in this game. The game should prove to be a hard-fought match with no clear winner heading into the clash.
