Former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino has suggested that Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson will be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur.
According to reports, the Spurs are looking to bolster their squad with the addition of Mawson as they look to challenge for major trophies next season. Tottenham are reportedly willing to pay £15 million for the defender.
Mawson was one of the more impressive players in helping the Swans avoid relegation this past season, playing 27 games in the Premier League and bagging four goals in the process.
Cascarino has now revealed that he feels that Mawson will be a good addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s side. He said, “I saw Mawson play two or three times towards the end of the season.
“He matured over the year, over the season. When he first came from Barnsley, I felt, ‘Okay, it’s a big step, he takes over from Ashley Williams, the captain’.
“As the season wore on, he improved, and by the end of the season he was one of the best centre-halves playing in the Premier League.
“I totally get why Tottenham have such an interest for someone like an Alfie Mawson that has jumped up a level, showed he can handle it, no problem at all. Can he go again?”
