According to reports, Sunderland club legend Kevin Phillips has become the shock favorite to become new manager of the club.
The Black Cats have been without a manager since the end of this past season after David Moyes handed his resignation due to a disagreement with the clubs board over transfer funds.
Popular Bookmakers Ladbrokes and Skybet have priced Phillips at 6/4 to succeed Moyes. The 43-year-old Phillips is currently a coach at Derby County and is keen to get into management.
He is also someone who the fans of Sunderland will welcome into the managerial position considering that he was a fan favorite at the club during his playing days.
During his playing days at Sunderland which were between 1997 and 2003, Phillips made 235 appearances in all competitions for the club, notching 130 goals. He also famously won the European Golden Shoe during the 1999/2000 season.
