According to reports, Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon are expecting a formal offer from Newcastle United for defender Ruben Semedo this week.
The 23-year-old will join the Magpies for a fee believes to be in the region of £15 million. While the player has a £39 million release clause in his contract, Lisbon will know that they realistically have no chance of gaining that amount of cash.
Semedo’s agent Catio Balde has reportedly been in contact with Newcastle during the past few days and both parties expect to reach an agreement soon.
Talks are said to be taking time as Lisbon are looking to add a sell on fee to Semendo in the case that he becomes the subject of interest from an elite club during his time with Newcastle.
Newcastle are looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of their return to the Premier League and the addition of Semendo will be good.
