England boss Gareth Southgate believes that striker Harry Kane could become the modern day Alan Shearer. The English Premier League Golden boot winner is likely to be named in England’s team for their World Cup qualifier against Scotland on Saturday.
Kane has established himself as arguably one of the best strikers in world football, having scored 29 goals from 30 League matches this past season and will be expected to terrorize the Scottish defence.
The fact that the 23-year-old Kane has now scored more than 20 goals in the past three consecutive seasons has led many to believe that he could usurp Shearer’s record of 263 career goals in the top flight.
Southgate, who played alongside Shearer during his international career spoke of the resemblances between Kane and his former team-mate, saying, “One of the resemblances I see is that if you have won the game and they haven’t scored, both have had the hump! Alan always got the bigger picture of what is important for the team and Harry sees that as well.”
