Reported Tottenham target Max Meyer has rejected a new contract offer with current club Schalke 04.
The German under-21 international addressed his future by saying to the Bild, “I have an offer to extend, but with my management decided not to accept it.”
Last November, Meyer confirmed that Spurs had inquired about him. Considering that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a reputation for giving youngsters first team opportunities and turning them into stars, the North London club may be appealing to the 21-year-old, who has played four times for the Germany national team and scored one goal.
Despite being only 21, Meyer has made an impressive 163 senior appearances for Schalke and scored 22 goals in the process.
Though he may be young, he is experienced at the highest level. It remains to be seen whether Meyer would prefer to see out the remaining year that is running on his current contract with the Bundesliga club or opt to leave immediately.
