Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are set to do battle in the race to sign Freiberg striker Maximilian Philipp, according to reports from the Sun.
The 23-year-old Philipp scored nine goals across all competitions last season and his form is said to have impressed clubs across Europe.
His name is reportedly on a list of targets created by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino and the North London club may make a formal offer over the coming weeks.
According to reports, Philipp has a £175 million release contract in his contract. While it is unlikely that his figure will actually be met, it does suggest that Freiberg will only be willing to accept big offers.
Philipp however could be willing to remain in Germany for now in order to develop his career further as he recently said, “England was always my goal. I loved the football and the fans. But I think now the Bundesliga has overtaken the Premier League technically.”
