Report: Rangers Interested in Three Liga MX Players

Former Santos Laguna manager, Pedro Caixinha has started his reign at the Scottish club, Rangers and he will begin to acquire players for his project shortly. Several players from the Liga MX have already been thrown around and it is likely that a few players from the Mexican league will join the team from Glasgow this offseason.

According to Scotsman, the Portuguese manager is interested in Eduardo Herrera, Carlos Peña and Javier Abella. Herrera from Pumas UNAM played in the Clausura 2017 with Veracruz, out on loan and scored three goals in 12 games as a starter. His physical presence may fare well in the Scottish league and it will be interesting to see if he does make the jump across the pond. Carlos “El Gullit” Peña is owned by Chivas of Guadalajara and was out on loan to Leon in the Clausura 2017 tournament. The midfielder scored two goals in 10 games as a starter and did have moments of brilliance during the season.

Peña was once regarded as a top midfielder in Mexico and maybe a move to Ibrox Stadium is what the Mexican needs to revitalize his career. The final player on Caixinha’s watchlist, for now, is Santos Laguna’s, Javier Abella. Caxinha managed the fullback at Santos Laguna and is a likely target for Rangers. The 23-year-old only received six minutes of playing time in this Clausura 2017 and could use a move away from the club. Caixinha’s project is an interesting one especially with the probability of bringing Mexican players over to European football
