Veteran striker Jermain Defoe has revealed that his heart will always be with Tottenham and added that Mauricio Pochettino is taking the club to new heights.
The 34-year-old Defoe spent the majority of his peak years with Spurs and is in fifth place in the club’s all time top goal scorers list.
Defoe said, “You move on and new players come through, fantastic players, but I’m still there as fifth all-time top goalscorer.
“I just think of the legends who have played at the club. To know that when I’ve finished playing I can look at that list and see my name is something special. My heart will always be at that club.”
Under Pochettino, Spurs have launched title challenges during the past two consecutive seasons and certainly are a team on the up under the Argentinean.
After his current club Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League, Defoe is expected to join a new club on a free transfer.
According to reports, West Ham, who attempted to lure Defoe in January, have cooled their interest and Bournemouth are now in pole position to sign the seasoned veteran.
