Newcastle linked Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, has refused to comment on rumors linking him away from the Riverside during the summer. Despite Middlesbrough being relegated, Gibson, who serves as club captain, has churned out some impressive displays.
“It’s not about me,” he told Gazette Live. “It’s never been about me. It’s not about individuals. All that matters, is Middlesbrough Football Club being a Premier League club.”
Considering that Boro are the 24 year old’s boyhood club, parting ways with them will be difficult. However, it is likely to happen, as there is no doubt that he will be looking to extend his stay in top flight football. Gibson’s current deal at the Riverside expires in 2021, which means that his club will likely pocket a big amount of money if they sell him.
Boro defended decently this season. It was their lack of prowess in front of goal, which ultimately has caused their relegation. They have managed just 26 goals thus far, which is the fewest in the Premier League.
