Jermaine Jenas reveals what Tottenham must do to catch up with Chelsea

Former Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas has said that Spurs must start paying their players as much as their title rivals if they wish to compete for the Premier League.

The North London side have established themselves as genuine title contenders over the past two seasons and are likely to finish second to Chelsea this season. The wage bill of the North London club is significantly less than that of the modern day giants of English football, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Jenas said, “They need to improve the wages bill numbers. It sounds crazy because you want to give them praise for being where they are in terms of how brilliant it is that their wage bill is so low.”

Should Spurs also wish to retain young stars such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli among others, improving the wage bill of the side may be a good thing  to do.

  1. Tottenham can never match Chelsea, Man utd, Man City, what there should do is to make the club a business club like Arsenal.

  2. Yes, but that is the whole point of the new stadium. Greater march day receipts, plus the NFL, plus concerts, plus a better team on the pitch will lead to higher sponsorship packages, etc. The club pays a set percentage of revenues in wages. Revenues go up wages go up. I would be surprised if the players and their advisors hadn’t taken this into account before signing their extended deals.
