West Ham United are interested in signing Jermain Defoe but will have to compete with Bournemouth, per Sky Sports. As the 34 year old’s current club Sunderland have been relegated, he is certain to join a new club as he looks to extend his stay in the Premier League.
The Hammers made inquiries to sign Defoe in January, which were declined by Sunderland. They are expected to try again during the summer.
The Hammers will be looking to add new strikers to their side during the summer, especially given that Diafra Sakho and Andy Caroll have not been particularly impressive this season. Defoe has vast experience playing in the Premier League and has scored 14 goals so far this season for the struggling Black Cats, which proves that he can still compete at the highest level.
Defoe previously played for Tottenham and joined its academy from Charlton in 1999. He eventually departed for Tottenham in February 2004 following the Hammers relegation to the Championship.
