Stoke City are set to offer a new deal to captain Ryan Shawcross in order to ward off interest from Newcastle United, per The Chronicle.
Since last month, Shawcross has been linked with a move to newly promoted Newcastle. The Magpies are seeking to bolster their squad to be competitive in the Premier League next season.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, Stoke will be forced to sell should the 29 year old decide against renewing his deal.
Poterries manager Mark Hughes did confirm that his club will attempt to keep Shawcross saying, “There’s not an issue, not from our point of view. We certainly want to keep Ryan here if we can,”
In addition to the Magpies, Leicester and Brighton and Hove Albion are also said to be interested in Shawcross, who is a youth product of Manchester United. It remains to be seen whether he would prefer to remain with the club whom he has represented for the past nine years or try out a fresh challenge.
