In the CONCACAF 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Panama will host the USA at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez this Tuesday, March 28, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are considered strong candidates for a World Cup spot and should be able to give a hard-fought encounter.
Panama is currently doing well in the hexagonal phase of the competition in third place with four points. Hernan Dario Gomez’s side is coming from a tough loss to Trinidad & Tobago, but before that had two surprising results, drawing to Mexico 0-0 and beating Honduras 1-0 away from home. After that tough loss to T & T, ‘los canaleros’ could really use a win here that would help maintain their World Cup hopes alive. The USA will be no easy task but Panama needs to use its home-field advantage the best that it can to get a favorable result here.
The USA is coming off a huge 6-0 victory over Honduras, which may have given the team the confidence it needs to prevail in this competition. After two straight losses in this qualifying stage, the Americans achieved their first win of the competition and are currently in fourth place with three points. The most notable thing from that monumental win against Honduras was that Clint Dempsey came up huge providing a hat-trick in that game.
It was Captain America’s first game back from injury and it was incredible that he came up so big for Bruce Arena. Dempsey will be one of the main players to look out for in this match along with Xolos’ player, Paul Arriola who received the call to play for the national team because of an injury to Michael Orozco. The match should be a thrilling encounter in Panama with both teams looking to get the three points from the game.
