Though Sunderland remain etched to the bottom of the Premier League standings and seemingly destined for relegation, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has chosen to focus on the positives following the Black Cats draw against Burnley during the weekend.
Pickford said, “We had a few good chances missed but on the plus side, at least we’re creating those chances. We couldn’t convert them but we’ve got to keep strong and keep believing in ourselves.”
The draw sees David Moyes team now being seven points adrift of safety. Pickford who has been one of the Black Cats most consistent performers this season was once again on good form and even drew praise from Burnley coach Sean Dyche after denying Sam Vokes a winner.
Pickford also praised Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who stands above him in the England national team pecking order, for pulling off an impressive save to deny Adnan Janujaz.
After fellow relegation candidates Leicester City and Crystal Palace pulled off wins during the weekend, the prospect of Sunderland avoiding relegation this season is becoming more improbable.
