Manchester United Possible Lineup vs Watford: 4-4-2 With Two Key Defenders Out

Manchester United put together a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City last weekend, and they are well within striking distance of a top four spot in the standings. Jose Mourinho’s side will be hoping to tally another win this weekend when Watford comes to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho went to the 4-4-2 last week and had success, so I think he will stick with that against Watford.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the possible lineup.

GK- David de Gea

De Gea has still started every single league game for Manchester United so far this season, and there is no reason to believe Jose Mourinho will drop him from the lineup this weekend.

LB- Daley Blind

Jose Mourinho still seems reluctant to put Luke Shaw in the lineup, so I think Blind will end up starting here against Leicester.

CB- Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling

Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are both dealing with injuries, and they could both miss the game against Leicester City this weekend. Rojo and Jones have been key contributors to Manchester United’s success in recent months, but Smalling and Bailly should be able to fill in adequately if called upon.

RB- Antonio Valencia

Valencia got an assist against Leicester City last week, as he continues his strong play this season. He is clearly Manchester United’s top option at right back, so he will almost certainly be in the starting lineup on Saturday.

LM- Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mkhitaryan scored a goal and tallied an assist last weekend, as he continues to impress. He has pretty much solidified his place in the lineup at this point, and I think it is safe to expect him to start almost every game.

CM- Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera

Pogba and Herrera have been two of Manchester United’s best players so far this season, and they both put in solid performances last week. There is no reason for either of these players to be dropped from the lineup.

RM- Juan Mata

Mata started at this position last week against Leicester and scored a goal. Jose Mourinho typically rewards players who do well by giving them another chance to start in the next match, so I believe he will give Juan Mata another start against Watford.

ST- Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford

One of the benefits of going with the 4-4-2 for this match would be that it would allow Jose Mourinho to start Marcus Rashford in his natural striker position. Rashford and Zlatan did well together in this formation last week, so I think it would make sense for them to play together again this weekend.
