The first match during Week 3 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 will be between Tiburones Rojos of Veracruz and Atlas at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente this Friday, January 20, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific). Both teams will be looking for a win for distinct reasons. Every game for Veracruz is a must win game in their relegation battle this season while Atlas will be looking for the 3 points in their chase for a possible ‘liguilla’ seed this season.

Veracruz has secured three points through the first two weeks in their fight against Morelia, Chiapas, Puebla and now Necaxa to remain in the top flight of Mexican football. Carlos Reinoso’s men will look to add to that total this Friday in what will be a tough match against Atlas.

The ‘tiburones’ are coming off a 2-1 loss to Santos Laguna away from home. The ‘jarochos’ looked decent against the ‘laguneros’ with new signing Eduardo Herrera coming through after a string of passes by their midfielders. This new revitalized Veracruz team can pull off some surprises this season, especially when playing at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente.

Jose Guadalupe Cruz’s team pulled off the upset of the week during Week 2 when Atlas defeated the Apertura 2016 champions, Tigres UANL. The ‘zorros’ won by a 2-0 margin and showed the potential of their new signings, Fidel Martinez and Matias Alustiza.

The duo which had previously played together with Ecuadorian team Deportivo Quito, linked nicely last Saturday and should be a deadly duo in weeks to come. The pair are key players to watch in this upcoming game, along with Ghanaian midfielder, Clifford Aboagye, who was impressive against the felines last Saturday.
