Liverpool Reportedly Turn Down Offer, Want £20m Instead

According to reports out of the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have turned down a loan approach by Southampton for defender Mahamadou Sakho.  Sakho has not featured for the Reds since last April before all sorts of issues arose.

Now, it is said that Liverpool are continuing, as reported earlier, to ask for a permanent solution to Sakho’s status.  They want a rumored £20m for the Frenchman so that they can end this chapter of a rather dubious history.

This strategy makes a lot of sense from Liverpool’s perspective.  What would happen is Sakho went out on loan either got badly injured or made a fool of himself at Southampton?  Wouldn’t he then be labeled as a bad guy for the dressing room?

Surely then, his fee would be much lower.  Or, they’d end up giving him away for free like they did with Balotelli this past summer.  Liverpool are every bit within their rights here, despite anything the player may be trying to leverage.

IF Jose Fonte leaves the Saints, we may be able to see Sakho move permanently move to the South Coast. That may be the quickest and best way to get this saga over with!
