The Copa Corona MX Clausura 2017 is set to begin this Tuesday where there will be no match-ups between Liga MX sides; however, Tuesday and Wednesday will present us with three. Among the most attractive is Queretaro F.C. hosting Cruz Azul at the Estadio Corregidora (5:00 PM Pacific).

As is accustomed in this competition Liga MX sides will use a few, if any regular starters. Like it or not, the Copa MX does present a chance for a team to add a championship to their accolades. This was the case for Queretaro last year as the club won its only major championship in their 66-year history.

The ‘Gallos Blancos’ have looked terrible to start off the Liga MX as they are yet to score and have only accumulated one point. The Copa MX, however, is a much different tournament than the Liga MX, especially because the players that are used are much different. ‘Gallos’ do have a decent bench, and we could be seeing Emanuel ‘El Tito’ Villa and Angel Sepulveda form the strike force against Cruz Azul. Both have proven to be clinical in the past and could potentially be a threat to Paco Jemez and ‘La Maquina’.

Cruz Azul are a completely different team from last season under new leadership, Spanish manager, Paco Jemez. The ‘Cementeros’ also come with a strong bench with players like Richard Ruiz and Francisco ‘El Gato’ Silva. It’ll be interesting to see if Jemez will use fresh signings Martin Rodriguez and Martin Cauteruccio against Manuel Vucetich’s side. This game has potential to be an intriguing and intense matchup, especially if Cruz Azul do utilize their new signings.
