Coming out of the international break, Manchester United play a very important fixture against Arsenal this weekend. Jose Mourinho’s side are dealing with numerous injuries and suspensions, so he will have to resort to somewhat of a makeshift lineup on Saturday.
Let’s take a look at the possible lineup.
GK- David de Gea
De Gea has been the man in net for Manchester United all season long, and he may need to come up with some big saves on Saturday in order to help his side get a victory.
LB- Daley Blind
Luke Shaw has not gotten along well with Jose Mourinho, so his starting role could be in jeopardy. Blind played well at left back earlier this season, so he would seem like a reasonable option to play if Shaw does not start.
CB- Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones
Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are both out with injuries, so Manchester United are somewhat limited at center back. Rojo and Jones started together two weeks ago against Swansea and played fairly well. Due to the injuries, this might be Manchester United’s best center back duo for the time being.
RB- Ashley Young
Ashley Young started here against Swansea and played well, so I think he deserves the chance to start again. It will be a much more difficult task against Arsenal rather than Swansea, but with Antonio Valencia out due to injury, Mourinho probably does not have a better choice.
CM- Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick
Herrera is having a very strong season, and he should be in the starting lineup every week at this point. Carrick is getting older, but with Marouane Fellani likely out injured he could get the chance to play on Saturday. This duo will need to play extremely well in order to keep the potent Arsenal attack at bay.
AML- Wayne Rooney
Rooney is yet another Manchester United player dealing with an injury, but if he is fit he should be in the starting lineup. He has been in much better form recently as he has a goal and two assists for Manchester United in his past two games.
AMC- Paul Pogba
Pogba is obviously a must start in any game of importance for Manchester United, and this game against Arsenal certainly classifies as an important one. He has been playing in a more attacking role in recent matches, so I expect to see him play as a center attacking midfielder on Saturday.
AMR- Jesse Lingard
Juan Mata could get the start in this game, but I think Jose Mourinho will look to start someone who is a bit better defensively against a strong attacking team like Arsenal. Lingard is not as big of a defensive liability as Mata, so I think he will get the start.
ST- Marcus Rashford
Zlatan is out for this match due to a suspension for yellow card accumulation, so Marcus Rashford could finally get the chance to prove what he can do as a striker. Rashford has not been great as an attacking midfielder this season, but he has demonstrated good finishing abilities making him a good option at striker for this game.
