Defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has agreed a new 4-year deal with Manchester United, according to ESPN.
The report suggests Fosu-Mensah’s representatives have been negotiating the player’s contract extension with United over the past few weeks and the deal is now expected to be finalized after the international break.
This would be welcome news for the club and the supporters as Fosu-Mensah’s current contract is due to expire next summer and the club surely wants to avoid another Pogba scenario.
The 18-year-old Netherlands Under-21 international established himself in United’s first team last season and has kept his place in the senior squad under Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho reportedly sees him as cover for Antonio Valencia at right-back this season, but the Portuguese manager definitely has big plans for the teenager, who has the talent to establish himself in the team’s starting eleven sooner rather than later.
Fosu-Mensah, who joined United from Ajax two years ago, is pretty versatile. His primary position is in midfield, but can also play at right-back or centre-back.
He has everything necessary to make it in English football – technical ability, defensive determination and fighting spirit.
If the report is genuine, this will definitely make the fans happy as Fosu-Mensah is one of the biggest talents at the club right now.
