Arsenal is reportedly close to a deal for Lille defender Djibril Sidibe, according to Freshfootball.co.uk (via L’Equipe). The deal that would send Sidibe to the Emirates is reportedly worth €15 million.
Sidibe is 23 years old, and he has been playing in the French Ligue 1 with Lille for the past 4 seasons. He has played 96 games in Ligue 1 in his career.
Sidibe is known as a good defender who can also come forward and make strong crosses. He is also good at taking shots from distance, so he is able to contribute both offensively and defensively.
Sidibe is a very versatile player, which would make him a great fit at Arsenal. He plays both right and left back, and he is also capable of playing in the midfield if needed.
Sidibe’s versatility will be vital to Arsenal as they will possibly lose two of their backup fullbacks from last season in Mathieu Debuchy and Kieran Gibbs.
Although Sidibe would probably not start if he came to Arsenal, he would get a lot of playing time filling in at both left back and right back.
All signs are pointing towards Sidibe ending up at the Emirates, and I would expect a deal to be made official in the near future.
