Manchester United Strongest Possible Lineup vs West Brom: Memphis Out, Lingard returns in a 4-2-3-1

Manchester United will look to continue their hot streak when they clash with West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday. Currently sitting 5th in the table and tied with Manchester City with 47 points, United must keep their positive form in order to seriously threaten City for 4th place in the league.

Louis van Gaal recently spoke to the press and reassured everyone that he is taking it one match at a time.

“We have to go step by step, I think,” van Gaal said. “We now have four victories in a row, which is fantastic, but we have a very small selection at the moment. Players are coming back, but I still have to solve a problem in my line-up every week.”

Here is the probable starting line-up with the weekend match against West Brom-

GOALKEEPER

David de Gea added another clean sheet to his tally as he and United enjoyed the 1-0 win over Watford. The Spaniard distributed the ball nicely and will be counted upon once again this Sunday.

DEFENCE

While others continue to nurse their injuries Guillermo Varela should continued to start as the right back. Marcos Rojo played admirable, shutting down the talented Watford attackers and he’ll resume his role as van Gaal’s left back.

Timothy Fosu – Mensah was handed his first start and he certainly impressed for a youngster and on this occasion he should be paired with the returning Chris Smalling in the heart of the United defence. Daley Blind, who was inaccurate in his passing the previous match, should make his way to the bench.

MIDFIELD

Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera appear to be van Gaal’s preferred defensive midfield pairing at the moment and this selection is working. Herrera was especially sharp throughout the match at Old Trafford and he continues to link play from the back four to the attack.

Juan Mata bagged the lone goal with a beautifully taken free kick late in the second half that sealed the win and all three points. Mata will be joined with Jesse Lingard to his right and Anthony Martial to his left while Memphis Depay makes way after a sub-par performance this past Wednesday.

ATTACK

Van Gaal will most likely to keep showing the faith in Marcus Rashford even though the young Englishman failed to score after back to back matches of scoring doubles. Rashford showed immense maturity in the Watford match, helping out the cause with some great pressing and showcasing his impressive speed.
