Tottenham Hotspur: A club you love to hate

Another transfer window come and gone. Yet again, as a fan you feel a little disappointed. It is frustrating to see a club take so long to make a deal only for it to fail on the last day. Everyone thought that Berahino was as good as signed, and then nothing. Daniel Levy was just unwilling to fork over the cash that would make West Brom change their mind. Better yet, he didn’t act soon enough so that West Brom would have the time they needed to replace him.

When you look at who they brought in such as Jelavic, Lambert, and Rondon, they have PLENTY of cover. Granted, Berahino is a more proven goal-scorer than any of the other three. They could have lived without Berahino if Levy had acted sooner. This is very atypical of Levy though. He is not one to leave deals so late.

We did so much business very early in the window so the players would have time to settle in. Even the deals for Njie and Son were pretty late in that they were not even available for our game versus Everton. That game was crying out for someone with pace on the flank which BOTH of them can offer.

For Tottenham fans every season starts the same way: Hopeful optimism that this year will be different. This year we sign that big name star who carries us into the top four. Now here we are a few days after the transfer window has closed and you kind of wonder, “Well now what?” Harry Kane is still on his own as a striker. Sure, Njie and Son are attacking threats, but neither are a true center forward.

Njie maybe a little more so than Son, but still. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited about Heung-Min Son. He is a proven talent in the Bundesliga and he will be a welcome refreshment from the dismal player that is Erik Lamela. Njie’s pace is going to be a huge threat especially when Eriksen is fit to plays those balls behind the defense. Maybe Pochettino can work with Njie and play him with Kane up top.

The only real positives from this window are that we got rid of a lot of dead weight in players that were just not performing and the fact that Arsenal only signed ONE PLAYER. Their squad depth is looking just as dismal as ours, which is comforting. When you are a Tottenham fan, you find joy in the small victories. After a poor transfer window and a poor start to the season, Tottenham is a club you just hate to love.
