Strongest Possible Lineup: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur – Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Darmain set for bow

As always, there was a lot of press surrounding Manchester United this summer regarding their transfer activity and while the Red Devils have not signed all the players they have ludicrously been linked to almost every single day by the media, it has to be said that the Premier League giants enjoyed a productive summer.

Having brought in the likes of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Sergio Romero, United have strengthened their side well but it remains to be seen whether they have sufficiently replaced the departing stars such as Robin van Persie, Nani and Rafael.

United now get their Premier League campaign underway with a clash against Tottenham Hotspur on August 8th and it is expected that majority of the Red Devils’ summer recruits will be starting on the day.

Here is the Strongest Possible Lineup for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur –

Goalkeeper

Despite all the speculation surrounding his future, David De Gea has still not left Manchester United and there is every possibility that he will be starting between the sticks against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

United have moved on to secure the services of Sergio Romero as well this summer and with De Gea having his heart set on a move to Madrid, it would also not be a surprise if the Argentine number one is given the nod to start.

The duo of Anders Lindegaard and Victor Valdes have fallen out of favour at the club and look very likely to be leaving.

Defence

Louis van Gaal has been experimenting with two different sets of backlines during pre-season and it looks like the quartet of Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw is his preferred first choice back four.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if van Gaal decides to stick to the backline which he has gone with during pre-season when Tottenham Hotspur pay a visit. That said, Phil Jones is a favourite of van Gaal and he could lineup alongside Smalling, with Blind being dropped to the bench.

Midfield

Manchester United have long been struggling in the midfield area but now the Red Devils are blessed with a plethora of talent at the middle of the part following the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Schneiderlin looks a certain starter in midfield for the game against Tottenham alongside Michael Carrick while Bastian Schweinsteiger could be introduced later on in the game. Ander Herrera is also in contention for a start but Marouane Fellaini is banned after picking up a red card against Hull City last season.

On the wide positions, Juan Mata and Ashley Young are likely to be starting but the likes of Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira have impressed in pre-season and will surely be handed an opportunity.

Attack

Following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, Manchester United are left with only Wayne Rooney as the recognized senior striker and the captain will surely be leading the line.

New signing Memphis Depay has been used as a supporting striker to Rooney and with United not having brought in a new front man as of yet, the young Dutchman will be starting once again.
