Manchester United in talks to sign Argentine star

Sergio Romero

“He is not selected because he does not follow my philosophy. There is not one place for one player – the philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm (…) When you are not willing to follow the principles of the philosophy there is only one way and that is out.” – Louis Van Gaal showed no mercy when asked why he had left Victor Valdes out of the team’s pre-season tour in America.

The Dutch manager had to deal with plenty of issues regarding United’s goalkeepers over the Summer; first, David de Gea’s never ending romance with Real Madrid and recently this fuss surrounding former Barcelona’s netminder, Victor Valdes.

With David de Gea apparently going nowhere, Manchester United will need to try to find a new goalkeeper to for compensate Valdes’ eminent departure.

According to several recent reports from different media outlets, the Red Devils are strongly considering making an approach to the Argentinean goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who played for Sampdoria last season and who currently is a free agent. Argentina’s National Team number 1 has allegedly received an excellent offer from AS Roma but he has not yet decided in what team will he be playing next season.

Despite being number 1 for Argentina, Romero was subjected to a rotation scheme at Sampdoria last term, as the team’s former manager, Sinisa Mihajlovic, often opted for Emiliano Viviano when the Italian international wasn’t injured.

With the new season just around the corner, Louis Van Gaal and United’s scouting team will need to find a proper solution for the role Victor Valdes occupied last term as soon as possible, in order to avoid unreasonable decisions and ludicrous last minute signings.
