No need for Benteke – Wonderkid striker wants Liverpool move

Keita Balde Diao wants to make a move to Liverpool according to the player’s agent

Liverpool have most certainly made a huge impact so far during the transfer window by recruiting a host of top quality players such as Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne among others.

While Liverpool already look significantly stronger than they did last season following the arrival of the summer recruits, one suspects that the Reds will still have to invest in a new striker before the end of the transfer window.

Aston Villa star Christian Benteke has often been mentioned as the main transfer target for manager Brendan Rodgers but the Northern Irishman is not willing to match the Villans’ asking price of around £32.5million for the Belgian international.

Diao wants Liverpool move

As a result, Liverpool have been forced to focus on targets elsewhere as well and the Premier League side have seemingly been handed a boost as long time target Keita Balde Diao wants a move to Anfield this summer.

According to Diao’s agent, Ulisse Savini, the young striker wants to leave Lazio imminently and Liverpool is the ideal destination which he would like.

Speaking to Radio Sei, Savini said, “For years there have been several offers coming in, but considering the situation I have to say this summer they are particularly interesting. I personally spoke to Lazio and they said his sale is not predicted. It’s only natural that he isn’t satisfied with the situation, so we are evaluating other options.

“Liverpool have a manager who relishes attacking players like Keita. It is a destination we would like, but we have to verify a series of situations. So far I have not had any direct contact with Liverpool.”

  1. Please tell me this article is a joke! We are talking here about a striker who has scored 6 times in 48 appearances for Lazio. I will reserve judgement over whether those stats call seriously into question the label ‘wonderkid’- after all stats don’t always tell the whole story of a player’s quality. That said, given that Liverpool’s need is for a proven out and out goal scorer, this goal scoring record would make it impossible for Keita to seriously be considered an option ahead of Benteke. Get real!
