Skrtel Out? Star defender ready to make ‘dream’ Liverpool move

Anfield

According to reports, Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Juventus star Angelo Ogbonna and the defender is interested in a move to Anfield

Martin Skrtel’s recent admission that Liverpool’s new contract offer was ‘unacceptable’, has cast a huge doubt on the defender’s long term future at the club.

With only a year remaining on his current deal at Anfield, Skrtel’s public outburst could well mean that the Slovakian international will end his eight year association with the Reds this summer.

Skrtel could be set for Liverpool exit

Replacing a defender of Skrtel’s credentials will certainly not be an easy task for Liverpool but manager Brendan Rodgers has been in the market for a new centre back for quite a while now and according to reports, the Northern Irishman is eyeing a move for Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna.

Ogbonna has been linked with Liverpool in the past as well and as the defender has struggled for playing time at Turin during the past two seasons, there is a strong possibility that he could finally make a move to Anfield this summer.

ESPN claimed that Liverpool had sent scouts to monitor Ogbonna during the Champions League final between Juventus and Barcelona in Berlin on Saturday but they would have returned disappointed as the 26-year old did not feature.

Ogbonna had revealed his admiration for Liverpool

Nonetheless, Liverpool are said to be interested in pursuing Ogbonna and the Reds are expected to table a bid within the next few weeks.

Ogbonna has made no secret of his admiration for Liverpool and had classed the Reds as his ‘dream’ club. The defender had told Sky Sports a few seasons back, “I am flattered by the interest from clubs. Liverpool is a dream club.

“If they are interested in me, that is awesome. I love the Premier League and one day I might play in that league. We all know that it is fantastic league.”
