Manchester United have emerged as the shock favourites to secure the services of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke – according to reports
Despite their commendable achievement of finishing in one of the Champions League positions last season, it is clear that Manchester United need reinforcements during the upcoming transfer window in order to put up a sustained bid for the Premier League title.
There are various areas which manager Louis van Gaal will need to address and strengthening his strike force will surely be on the agenda.
The departure of Radamel Falcao as well as the uncertainty surrounding Robin van Persie’s future at Old Trafford means that United will in all likelihood need to bring in a new striker this summer.
United leading the chase for Benteke
In recent weeks, the media have linked the likes of Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette and Edinson Cavani with a move to United but now in a shock emergence, it has been claimed that the Red Devils are targeting Aston Villa star Christian Benteke.
Benteke has hinted that he will be leaving Aston Villa and Premier League giants Liverpool or Arsenal were seen as the realistic destination for the 24-year old.
However according to the Daily Star, Manchester United have emerged as favourites to secure the signing of Benteke. It was recently revealed that Benteke’s release clause stands around £32.5million but United will be hoping to strike a deal in the region of around £20-25million.
At just 24, Benteke has already amassed a lot of experience playing at the top level and he could well prove to be a very good signing for the Red Devils.
