It has not even been ten days, and another CONCACAF rivalry match will take place with the Mexico U-23 vs United U-23 friendly match this Wednesday, April 22, 2015 (8:00 PM Pacific) at the StubHub Center. Last ASpril 15th, The USA senior team defeated Mexico’s senior squad with the repetative 2-0 score. This Wednesday, the U-23 squads will face-off in what should be an interesting and important game between the two pre-Olympic sides.
Mexico goes into the game with an alternate squad, as they will be without stars like Javier Abella, Hirving Lozano, Carlos Fierro, Erick Torres, and Rodolfo Pizarro to name a few. Although the ‘tricolor’ will not play with their best, they still have top players like Jonathan Espericueta, Marco Bueno, and Kevin Escamilla. This friendly will allow for coach Raul Gutierrez to look at new faces, which will aid him in selecting a competitive squad for the upcoming Panamerican Games next summer in Toronto.
The USA camp will attempt to make a good match, where a victory will be their prime goal. While Mexico is preparing for the Panamerican Games and Olympic qualifiers, the USMNT U23 is solely preparing for the Olympic Qualifying later this year in October. The young squad is made mostly from professional players, with 9 players from the MLS, 3 from Liga MX, 3 from the NASL, and 2 from college. The most remarkable name is that of Jordan Morris, who plays at Stanford and scored a goal with the senior squad in the win against Mexico.
