With Manchester United failing to win any of their four games this season, it would be an understatement to say that the Red Devils endured a poor first month of the campaign.
Strange as it might sound though, there were a couple of positives for United to look back upon. The emergence of young Tyler Blackett has been encouraging while new signing Angel Di Maria also looked very promising in his debut.
Phil Jones has been a rare positive for United over the last month
However, the biggest positive for United was the fine form of Phil Jones. There has been a lot of debate regarding whether or not Jones can play effectively at centre back but during the last month, the young man showed that he is a very good defender who is perhaps capable of filling the boots of the likes of Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic if he can become add consistency to his game.
Admittedly, the bar was not set too high due to majority of the United players under performing but Jones was easily the Red Devils’ best player and certainly deserved to be awarded the club’s Player of the Month award.
