Manchester United’s season is underway and has started with a horrible loss. If United want to achieve a respectable result in the EPL, the following three players MUST have an outstanding season, or the Red Devils will be doomed to mediocrity.
Rooney, being appointed captain, is tipped to have one of the best seasons in his United career. Rooney was finally established as captain, right before the start of the season, and performed enormously during the opening game, scoring the only goal for United.
During the US preseason tour, Rooney was playing as a second striker. Rooney will finally play as a striker under the new manager, in Van Gaal’s new system, and will try to prove critics wrong by showing that his best years are not yet behind him.
Rooney will finally be able to give one hundred percent in his beloved position, and wearing the armband, will make him finally perform on the level of a superstar. Rooney should drag United in the Premier league to the top positions, and have a 30+ goals this season.
It will not be a breakthrough season for Rooney, as much as a breakthrough for United with Rooney as their leader.
Robin Van Persie
Robin Van Persie is one of the players that is going to have a breakthrough season, after a disappointing and injury devastated season under David Moyes.
The connection that Van Gaal has with the United striker is going to help Van Persie get into shape and utilize the player to his best. Van Gaal is probably the only reason Van Persie is expected to have a breakthrough season.
Van Persie would be the main man in any tactic that Van Gaal chooses. Rooney will be captain and will be playing upfront with the Dutchman, however, RVP should be considered as the main goal scoring power.
Robin is getting in to the best shape possible after the World Cup, and is expected to play in the third or fourth Premier League game. Robin will be Van Gaal’s main weapon for retaining the top positions in the EPL.
The new addition has impressed during the pre-season tour. With a lot of critics suggesting that this is the best option United could find to replace the genius of Paul Scholes, Herrera is excepted to have an amazing season.
Herrera was really good during the preseason creating 5 goals out of the 7 in the game against LA Galaxy. His style of play is very appealing to the United squad, and his huge talent and potential is something United lacked, and desperately need in the middle of the park.
With the form and the vision Herrera has, and Michael Carrick being injured, he is expected to be the number one pick in central midfield and the person dictating the game. The talent at his disposal is clearly the skills United lacked at midfield last season.
