The international pre-World Cup friendly, Spain (España) vs El Salvador, will be played this Saturday, June 7, 2014 (1:00 PM Pacific) at the Fedex Field. This friendly is expected to be one-sided in favor of the #1 world ranked Spain, although El Salvador is always an extremely difficult opponent when playing at home. For the ‘Roja’, this will be their last friendly prior to their participation in the FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup which is just days away from starting.
This friendly match will be the final check of whether the Spanish are ready to perform on their highest level in front of the World Cup. El Salvador is certainly much below Spanish standards and their coach Del Bosque will search for a chance to maximize his players’ confidence in this match, by achieving a comfortable victory.
Spain played four friendly games, after successfully finishing the qualification cycle. They managed to get three victories, over Bolivia, Italy and Equatorial Guinea, but they surprisingly lost to South Africa. In other games, the reigning world champions haven’t played well, either – they failed to score more than two goals in all of the games.
El Salvador managed to get through the second round in the CONCACAF qualifications. They had themost points in their group with Dominican Republic, Suriname and Cayman Islands, but in the next phase they were third in their group, only in front of Guyana and behind Mexico and Costa Rica, who qualified for the World Cup in the end.
In the CONCACAF Gold Cup, held last year, El Salvador beat Haiti and drew with Trinidad and Tobago, lost to Honduras, and then USA hammered the team 5-1 in the first knockout match.
El Salvador have only two players who play in Europe, midfielder Alas playing for Rosenborg in Norway, and attacker Burgos is a member of Hungarian Gyor.
Spain vs El Salvador Prediction
Clearly, this match will be totally one sided, and the only question is the size of the goal margin at the end of it.However, this game is important to Spain, mainly because it is expected that the injured Diego Costa will recover in time for this game. Depending on his performance, Del Bosque will see whether or not he could rely on his talents for the opening World Cup game, which Spain plays against Netherlands.
Del Bosque could give a chance to some players who didn’t feature in many games so far, so he could have the whole squad ready and in form for the group phase of the World Cup.Considering all of the facts, it is expected that Spain will win this match 4-0.
