The pre-World Cup International friendly, Colombia vs Jordan (Jordania), will be played this Friday, June 6, 2014 (3:50 PM Pacific) at the El Nuevo Gasometro stadium in Buenos Aires. The ‘Cafeteros’ will have their final friendly exam prior to their participation in the FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup which is set to begin on June 12. Colombia is part of Group C, and will play their first game against Greece on June 14.
The friendly against Jordan will be bittersweet for Colombia as they are encouraged to win and obtain a good result prior to the World Cup, but with the knowledge that their leader and star forward, Radamel Falcao, was eliminated from the roster earlier in the week due to a knee injury. Nonetheless, the team coached by Jose Pekerman is united and has the talent necessary in all lines of the field to not only play well without Falcao, but also to reach historic marks in Brazil.
The question made by Falcao’s departure is who will be the starting forwards for their first game against Greece. Porto striker, Jackson Martinez, will be given the chance to start against Jordan, therefore a good performance there could give him the starting role in Brazil. Moreover, another player who is highly favored to start is Teofilo Gutierrez, who may not be a top scorer at the club level (River Plate), but with the cafeteros always finds a way to find the back of the net.
Other strikers in contention are Carlos Bacca, Adrian Ramos, and Victor Ibarbo. Colombia has the luxury to have five talented strikers, all with the ability to start at the World Cup, therefore the game against Jordan could be crucial in determining the starters.
Colombia vs Jordan Prediction
The Colombia vs Jordan friendly will be heavily one-sided in favor of the South Americans. Pekerman’s side is much more talented, but more importantly, they are in a good form and with the pressure to play close to perfection as their participation in the World Cup is set to begin. Colombia will get their last chance to practice tactics, and also to show in what level the forwards are in, especially considering that Falcao will be absent in Brazil. The Colombia vs Jordan international friendly will end in a 3-0 win for the cafeteros.
