United close their first post-Sir Alex season with a trip to the south coast to face a Southampton side who have been extremely impressive for the majority of the season. There’s nothing to play for here, so we can expect a much changed line-up with some less familiar faces included.
Giggs will fancy making an appearance at some point as he potentially signs off on his exceptional playing career. For Vidic it’s the end of his United time too, and Ferdinand and Evra could well follow, despite both being apparently keen to remain at the club.
Van Gaal should be unveiled next week and will undoubtedly be making sweeping changes to the squad, many of the under-performers from the current squad will be shown the door, so there’s a chance that this game will represent the last United game for one or two more than the players we know about already.
Historically Sir Alex always used to play younger players in the season finales if there was nothing to play for, so expect Giggs to do the same here.
