The United States Men’s National Team has their roster ready to face Ukraine in an international friendly this Wednesday, March 5, 2014 (11:00 AM Pacific). The game to be held at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca, Cyprus will be an important game for the USMNT in their Brazil 2014 World Cup preparation, as it will be the only FIFA Match Day prior to June’s competition.

The USMNT will play in Cyprus, although the game was initially scheduled to be held in Ukraine. Due to the severe conflicts currently taking place in the Eastern European nation, it was decided for the best that the friendly be played in Cyprus. Although that may force the match to not have a good attendance, it will still be extremely important for Jurgen Klinsmann’s team as they prepare for the World Cup.

Considering this is the only FIFA Match Day prior to Brazil 2014, Klinsmann named a roster almost completely filled with European-based players. The only players listed that do not play in Europe are Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Michael Bradley (Toronto), and Liga MX player Edgar Castillo (Xolos Tijuana).

The biggest surprises in this list are the non-called MLS players like Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Omar Gonzalez, Graha, Zusi, and Matt Besler. Although their absence is explained as Klinsmann wants to see as many ‘European’ players as possible in his only opportunity prior to his World Cup final list.
