According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann and is looking to bring him over to The Emirates this summer.

Griezmann, who is being watched by all the top clubs it seems, is making a push to be included in France’s 23 man squad for the World Cup this summer. Griezmann is having his most productive professional season averaging a goal every other game (19 goals in 38 apps).

Griezmann, an offensively gifted player, would be a great addition for Arsenal. He has the pace to drive past fullbacks on the wing like a Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain, but brings a different dimension. Griezmann has wonderful skills with both feet and can play on either flank or even play isolated if need be.

Although this is not the exact type of player that Arsenal needs, Griezmann still brings some qualities that would fit in nicely with the style of play that Arsenal possess. Arsenal love to play one touch passes that can be easy on the eye and Griezmann has the qualities to suit that style of soccer.

This transfer rumor is from The Daily Star, so I would rate it as a 6 out of 10 in rumour strength. Griezmann would help Arsenal become a better side because of what he brings but it is not the exact signing they need, thus I give it a 7 out of 10 score.

Looking at the types of players that Arsenal are interested in time after time, this transfer looks to be quite accurate. Arsenal love to buy young talented midfielders and Griezmann fits the bill. I say that there is about a 30% chance this happens as of right now. Sociedad are likely to qualify for Champions League again next season and they will be looking to keep their French star unless they get a lucrative offer.

Griezmann would make any side better that he joins and that is a testament to his attributes. Arsenal need more depth in attack and Griezmann brings that, although he is not an out and out striker.

  1. Note to Griezmann – if you want your career to grow and flourish then do not answer the phone if David Moyes or Ed Woodward are at the other end of the line. It is better to play for QPR for the rest of your life then to spend one hour with this career crushing twosome.
