The Liga MX has announced that Cruz Azul will be fined both economically, and with a stadium suspension following the violent fan acts after the match against Toluca.  The match played last November 30, 2013, was for the quarterfinals, in which Cruz Azul lost in an aggregate score of 4-1.

According to femexfut.org.mx, Cruz Azul has been fined with $194, 000 pesos and a one game suspension at their stadium; the Estadio Azul.  The incidents of November 30 occurred after the second leg match against Toluca ended with a quarterfinal defeat.  One of the Cruz Azul ‘ultra’ fan groups violently opened one of the fence gates which allowed them to rush the field after the game ended.

Those fans ran towards the locker room entrances, raising security concerns for the players, referees, and fans.  These cowardly acts by this ‘barra’ were punished severely by the league, and sadly, the team, and the true responsible fans will be the ones that suffer the most.

The one game stadium suspension will take effect during Cruz Azul’s first match at home during the Clausura 2014 season.  The game will be in Week 2, when they host Santos Laguna.
