Mexico vs Brazil U-17 Highlights

The Mexico vs Brazil U-17 match ended as a nail-biter, where the ‘tricolor’ reached the semifinals after 12 rounds of penalty kicks.  The first 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 tie, but the real drama was made from the 12 yards.  After both sides missed once each following 11 players, Brazil finally missed on the 12th kick.  Shortly afterwards Alejandro Diaz made the game winner which puts Mexico in the semifinals against the winner of the Argentina vs Ivory Coast game.

Mexico will look to earn what would be an outstanding win when they face Brazil this Friday in Dubai.  The coach, Raul ‘Potro’ Gutierrez is no stranger to difficult teams who are much more superior on paper.  Just two years ago in the U-17 World held in Mexico, his team defeated France in the quarterfinals, and then Germany in the semifinals to what would eventually become a World Cup title for the young Mexicans.

On Friday, ‘Potro’ will attempt to give his players that mentality that anything is capable at this stage of world soccer; as long as there is enough talent, and intelligence on the field.  After 4 matches, Mexico has won 3 and lost 1, but the team has improved game-after-game.  Against Brazil they will face a team that has scored 18 goals in 4 matches, therefore they will need to play a perfect defensive game, as well as win possession of the ball.

Unlike Mexico, Brazil has been playing the same way in all 4 matches throughout the tournament; magnificent.  This team has been extremely powerful on offense, and considering that country’s long championship history, they go into Friday’s game as the favorite to win the match and the title.  In front they will have a very motivated Mexican squad who may be inferior in talent, but who has a strong mentality with two U-17 titles in the past 8 years.

Mexico vs Brazil U-17 Prediction

The Mexico vs Brazil U-17 match will be intense, between two great teams who have their sights set on the championship trophy.  The winner of this match will be the favorite to defeat the winner from the Argentina vs Ivory Coast quarterfinal match.  Considering the magnitude of the game, both sides will play intelligent matches, where Mexico will focus in conserving midfield ball possession.  On the other side, Brazil knows they have the best offense in the tournament along with Nigeria, therefore they will attempt to exploit that strength (Nigeria defeated Mexico 6-1 in the group stages).

It will be a good game nonetheless; however, Brazil will be too much for the mini-tricolor.  Unfortunately for ‘el tri’, they will not be able to contain Brazil’s great offense, meaning they will not compete for consecutive U-17 World Cup titles.  The Mexico vs Brazil match will end in a 1-3 win for the ‘verde-amarelha’.
