Queretaro is in bad need of points, and unfortunately for them, they will face an undefeated Club America squad at Estadio La Corregidora on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 6:00 PM EST. Queretaro earned its first point of the season last week, when they surprisingly tied Tigres 2-2 at Monterrey; De los Cobos’ squad finally showed signs of life, but will it be enough? Club America is undefeated, but has just won one game out of four so far, Herrera will certainly be looking to earn three points against one of the weakest Liga MX teams.
Queretaro has been quite terrible so far, having averaged two goals against per game (that’s eight goals against so far in four matches, for those of you mathematically impaired), and have only scored two goals. Last week against Tigres, against all predictions, they drew the powerful Monterrey based team and scraped out a point. The question is, will the Queretaro that shows up against America be the same team that got the surprising result against Tigres? I think the team that will show up is the same one that lost three matches in a row, we shall wait and see…
Club America drew against Atlas at Estadio Azteca, a result that should worry Herrera; not being able to beat a team like Atlas at home is a good way to let go of points at home. Nonetheless, America is still undefeated, even if their offense hasn’t been as explosive as they have accustomed us to before. I expect Herrera will try to go in for the kill, and finish off the weaker Queretaro team in their own stadium. I can guarantee that America’s undefeated streak will remain untarnished after the match against Queretaro.
Prediction: Queretaro achieved a draw last week against Tigres, this doesn’t mean that they are magically a good team. Queretaro is still plagued with defensive errors and an ineffective offense: it will cost them against America. Club America, with players like Benitez, will have a field day tearing apart the Queretaro defense. America will win the match and earn the three points. The score will be Queretaro 0 – America 2.
Television: The Queretaro vs America match will be shown on
Univision at 6:00 PM EST on Saturday, August 18th. UPDATE: Univision changed the programming at the last minute, the match is currently being shown on Univision Deportes.
